The region is bordered by Belgium in the north, by Lorraine in the east, by Franche-Comté and Burgundy in the south, and by the Paris region and Picardy in the west. The Champagne-Ardenne region consists of four departments: Aube, Ardennes, Haute-Marne, and Marne. Châlons-en-Champagne is the capital of both the department of Marne and the region of Champagne-Ardenne, despite being only a quarter the size of the former capital of the region – the city of Reims.

The region is famed world-wide for its champagne. Reims - The city lies in the Champagne-Ardenne region in northeastern France 129 km east-northeast of Paris. It became a major city during the period of the Roman Empire and is by far the largest city in the region.

Epernay - Situated on the left bank of the River Marne, and more famously known as the 'entrepot' of Champagne wines. The production of Champagne is a major source of local employment.
